The 9th Annual Jerry Cruise

I like Western music…Western music and staples.

Nov. 29th 2008 or today was the 9th Annual Jerry Cruise. OK, yes…last year this event was called the “First Annual (which doesn’t make sense) Jackson Cruise” in honor of our fallen friend. This year however we decided that more events should be honor of living people, so they can cruise too. That being the case we named this the 9th Annual Jerry Cruise in honor of Brandon’s grandfather and DHP patriarch, Jerry Pancost (note: we thought a random number like 9 would be cool).

In any case we met up on the far East Side of Tucson and held a little cruise for our man. It was a really good time and he was touched…by Lemorris….it was a bad touch.

Here’s the vid…enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving

We wish everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

The Lowlifevw.com Benefit Show

The beast of Yucca flats made me pee my pants.

On Nov. 9th 2008 the Lowlifevw.com Benefit VW Show was held at the Yucca Tap Room in Tempe, AZ. The show was put on to benefit our good friend Andy Ham as he has some pretty serious medical bills and stuff. We…DHP were honored that we were asked to participate. Lowlife is our information super highway home and we’d do anything for our homies up there.

In any case it was a bomb-a_s show and a bomb-a_s time. We’ll get some pics and other stuff up soon.

We want to send a sincere best wishes to Andy Ham, and we’d also like to send a special thanks to Thayer and the Lowlife crew for being down and for letting us be down too.

Here’s the vid…enjoy!

NOTE: PG13 or so…we kept the language in cause this is lowlife. :)

DHP Phoenix Grows Again!

Known for it’s shallow roots, the common cliff shrub gives way to gentle pressure.

Exciting time for the Phoenix DHP guys right now. Though we all knew that the crew would grow up there, we had no clue that some of the coolest cats in the metro Phoenix area would hang out. We’re all thrilled with all the Phoenix crew. So…lets meet:

Tyler Estes - 1963 logo’d Single Cab

Tyler spent his youth doubling for Kris Kringle in the Rankin and Bass Christmas on Ice show. After a nasty groin injury while attempting the Flying Lotus, Tyler decided to get into VWs. He is a well known fixture at shows all over Arizona. He is also credited with the quote “…and she stepped on the ball!” which was overheard at a Tyson fight.

Chris Hardy - 1960 23 window

Chris Hardy is a star in the Arizona VW scene. Not long after leaving his gypsy lifestyle behind he was befriended by an 80 year old VW guru. “The Master” as Chris came to call him, taught him the ways of the force and several home economic tips as it turned out. Chris is another semi quiet type but don’t let his introverted demeanor fool you. His steely stare has been known to make men cry. You can mess with alot of things, but Chris ain’t one of em.

Mike Owen - 1963(?) Frekkin bada_s hotwheelish Type 1

Mike Owen is a giant in the AZ VW scene. Crowds part when he walks by. Deer and other woodland creatures come out and sing then they shut the f__k up. Mike’s car is one of the most recognized and awarded in the Phoenix area. He is a longtime friend of DHP and we are extremely proud to have him on board. Mike doesn’t have a background and many believe him to be an alien…an alien from the planet bada_s!! Mike was also insistent that we mention his ear lobe…we don’t know why.

so…welcome new guys!

What’s Wes up to?

DHP NM Wes is a TV repair man, he has the ultimate set of tools.

Well…not much to say…Wes is a bad a_s.

what

Meet Bella Jade

DHP wishes to send out a big congrats to Kyle and Katie on the birth of their first child Bella Jade. We’re not sure that there has ever been a more appropriate named child. However, it is pretty apparent that she got her stunning looks from her mom.

In all seriousness we wish the new family joy and hapiness always.

Much love you guys,

DHP

Strides Against Cancer 2008: The Visit

Wasn’t it MC Search who spoke of 3 the hard way?.

Today was the American Cancer Society’s Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. We had plans to bring a few cars down there and due to a rash of uncontrollable circumstances a few is exactly what we got.

No matter

This event was huge! There were literally thousands of people walking for a good cause. Though we only had a few cars out there it was well worth it. Seeing the shear number of people that are affected by breast cancer is sobering to say the least. Our feelings of personal significance was greatly reduced. It was humbling to say the least.

Next year we’ll try to show better but for those of us that were able to make it, this year will be special.

Here’s the vid…enjoy!

Just Kickin It, compound style.

Sometimes it’s nice to unwind by doing.

This is the weekend between Vegas and Chirco and the DHP tradition of spending it unwinding by working held true again.

What happened on Saturday? Fix cracked exhaust flange on lemorris’ car, fixed junky jet on Ed’s car, continued work on 58 resto, worked on BMX bike, put new exhaust in DHP H20 car, ate grease at Lucky Wishbone, made some new friends and drank some grape soda.

good times

DHP at Vegas Bugorama 2008

Whats, Now Whats, and what not..

A few of the DHP cats never miss the Vegas Bugorama. This year part of the venue changed but the fun was still there. It was nice for our guys to kick it with our DHK friends too.

Here’s the quick vid…enjoy!

oh…stay till it’s done to see it all. (that’s silly) :)

Is there Dry Heat in Vegas?

2008 Vegas Bugorama

Here’s a few shots from the 2008 vegas Bugorama. The fellas just got back so once they settle in we’ll see if we can do a video or slideshow or something with the pics and video. Anyway…enjoy

Lisa’s Legacy Fund

Easily one of the most significant motivators in DHP going Pink is Lisa’s Story.

Comic artist Tom Batiuk, creator of Funky Winkerbean had a huge impact on us with the tale of his character Lisa Moore. Her battle with breast cancer was both heart breaking and inspirational. It’s not often that a comic strip changes it’s stripes and tackles such a meaningful subject but we applaud Mr. Batiuk for his efforts.

Here’s a link to the all knowing all accurate Wikipedia Lisa’s Story

Here’s a link to the official Lisa’s legacy Fund site…yes an actual fund set up for a comic character…awesome.

Lisa’s Legacy Fund Official Site

Also here’s the link to Lisa’s Story the book on Amazon…recommended DHP reading…very moving…wow.

2 cool pink things

Pink and Link.

Here’s a great link that was passed on to us by a co-worker of Lemorris. He saw what was goin on with the site and he sent us this:

_____________________________________________________________________________

Here’s a link you can add to the DHP site, Lemorris:
Click here to visit The Breast Cancer Site

Just by visiting once a day and clicking the big button (and viewing the ads) you can contribute to funding mammograms for those who cannot afford one themselves.

And shopping in the site’s store contributes even more.

Plus the site runs all year, not just in October, so you can visit daily all year round to promote awareness and prevention..
_____________________________________________________________________________

So DHP says thanks to Paul V for the link and for checking out the site. We also want to thank Mercedes S. for the cool Pink Panther idea. Good stuff folks.

Links and Shots

Pics and clicks.

First we’ll post the serious then we’ll do the silly.

One of the big events for Breast Cancer Awareness month is their “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” event. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a noncompetitive walk to help fight breast cancer and provide hope to people facing the disease.

This event takes place everywhere according to the map so DHP encourages you to check out the Cancer Society page and see what’s happening with Making Strides in your area.

Pink Ribbon History

We don’t know about you but some of us wondered (outloud) “why pink?…why come it can’t be purple like Lemorris’ soda or grey like Pete wants his 60 to be?” We went to wikipedia (the source for all that is accurate and true) and found some info.

Bring on the silly

Here’s some random shots in DHPink vision of the happenings at the compound tonight. The fellas are getting ready for the Vegas show and sorta relaxing after a work filled week….wait a minute, isn’t today Wednesday? what tha….

Doing things that matter…DHP

Wow! Big time changes huh? :) Well what can we say…we like it.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the DHP crew has decided to step up and show some support. Breast cancer and actually cancer in general has touched many of us over time and statistically speaking many more of us will be touched. Admittedly it is a little sad that it takes a touch or a tragedy to get people off there hinders but the “why” we’re doing something isn’t near as important as the “what” (pun craftily intended)

It is our intent to show support and help increase awareness so we will be using our site to distribute information and even a few stories of hope this month. Doing things that matter is something we encourage all VW clubs and air-cooled fanatics to get behind. Maybe your “matter” is The Children’s Hospital, maybe it’s old building restoration, maybe it’s a big scary man who wants to hurt you (El Guapo)…lol…sorry that was funny…anyway it doesn’t matter what your “matter” is. It can be all of those things and more…just do something that does….we are.

what

DHP Phoenix continues to grow.

New Phoenix Guy…What

Big ups to the newest DHP Phoenix member, Ed. To our recollection he doesn’t have a last name, but many world leaders and superstar gymnasts are like that.

That being said all of the DHP dominion welcomes Ed with open arms. He has been in the hobby for frekkin ever and his reputation as a kind, generous and well respected member of the VW community is something we will all work very hard to change.
