2nd Saturdays Downtown Tucson
Join us this Saturday for the November 2nd Saturdays festivities in Downtown Tucson. Our buddy Jose No-Turtleback-Nada will be doing the official launch of MaFooCo (Mexican Asian Food Company). MaFooCo’s specialties are Korean Tacos and Kimchi Quesadillas… saying they are delicious would be a serious and illegal-in-34-states understatement. Come out and enjoy some free and family-friendly entertainment, and of course, come out and support our boy Jose.
Event Hours: 6pm - 10:30pm
For more information on all the events going on this weekend at 2nd Saturdays, visit their website.
Bugtoberfest’s Sweet 16
DHP AZ and New Mexico will be rolling to Chirco’s Bugtoberfest this weekend. Our very own Jose Turtleback will be there with the MaFooCo truck selling some bomb Korean BBQ Tacos and more. El Chapin is making the trip down from New Mexico, and he’ll be at the show striping on site, so hit him up if you want some fine lines put down. We’re looking forward to the events of this weekend, as it promises to be a really good one. See you guys out there.

Russ the Bus #3
We’ve all been busy with life, and it would be easy to justify the lack of blogging. Blah blah work, blah blah families, blah blah this awesome economy, blah blah boring. All you really need to know is that Jose’s bus in on the ground (well it’s been for a little while, oops) and it’s looking killer. Beam, brakes, powdercoated wheels, transmission and axles… the works. In the works is the engine, but more on that at some other time. For now, enjoy some pictures of Russ and its killer new stance:
Que?!
Tucson Coffee & Cars
This past Saturday some of us rolled up with some fellow vdub owners to La Encantada Mall. Fanciness was to be expected, and the Tucson Coffee & Cars didn’t disappoint. The weather was great, we had some tasty coffee, and enjoyed some very sick water pumpers. Overall, a fun little cruise and show, and a great way to spend a Saturday morning. Some pictures below:
Lemorris made a sick video of the cruise/show, check it out on his website.
Russ the Bus Update #2
Our good buddy Jose’s been working hard on Russ……. the bus. His goal for right now is to rock the amazing patina the bus has, but he’s going to have the suspension and powertrain completely gone through. Suspension has been torn down and will be getting upgraded. Tackling the forty-six-year-old dirt and grime was a challenge, but Jose and the helping hands of Brandon and Mike at the Compound did a mighty fine job. Some pix of the progress:

Plenty of cleaning and a little paint….

Beam is out. I don’t think Russ will be seeing a stock beam again, but we’ll just have to see.

The rear needs some loving too… wait, what?

No one knows how Jose talked Brandon into letting him roll with the DHP65 plate, but quite frankly, I don’t think we want to know.
Phoenix Bugorama Aftermath
Like every year, Bugorama was a blast. Started off with a nice relaxing cruise up to Phoenix for the Tucson members. Some of the Phoenix crew showed up to represent their backyard. Others, like El Chapin and Mike Grady, had a much longer journey, and we thank them very much so for embarking in it. Helping set up FIR for the show and eating copious amounts of pupusas wasn’t too bad either. Then came Frenchy’s open-house…. wow. That’s pretty much all we can say about that. Thanks for the invite Frenchy, it was awesome. We wrapped up Saturday with a nice dinner at In-n-Out, followed by some more great times at Joe’s house. Thanks Joe for the hospitality and the amazing party decor
Some pictures from Saturday below:
Sunday morning was a little rough. Hit the road for the show at 5:30a.m. Things were a little slow, and just when you thought this show might not be that big, boom. Show area was full, the swap meet area was overflowing, and the drag races were awesome. The grass was green and cool, and offered some comfort in what turned into a pretty warm afternoon. Overall it was a great day, followed by another relaxing cruise back home. Oh yeah, John “Kenny Rogers / John Clevenger Insurance / DHP Bad@$&” Clevenger won 2nd place in Custom Ghia… congrats man. Looking forward to doing it all over again next year…. what?!
El Chapin Pinstriping
Here’s some of Alex’s (DHP NM) recent work. He’s super skilled and it’s been awesome watching him as he improves his pinstriping skills. Rumor has it that he started striping (not stripping you dirties) when he was 2 years old, back in his native Guatemala. He striped his little cousins forehead with the letters DHP (at that time, the letters didn’t make sense, but he striped it anyways). His family was all like “WHAT?!” and fearing he was falling into the dark world of gangs, sent him to the United States. The rest is history.
These boards were for Omar and Brandon down in Tucson.
You can check out more of his work on his Facebook page or his website www.pinstripesbyalex.com
You can also shoot him an email if you’re interested in getting something striped by El Chapin himself:

Blast from the Past
I don’t know what you think but this is to me one –if not the coolest– Single Cab.
We can’t wait to see Brandon’s Double Cab out there rolling!

Russ the Bus update
Jose’s 65 patina bus got a warning decal for the benefit of those speeding around the East side of Tucson. It is a home-made Slow Moving Vehicle reflective sticker.
Here is a photoshop illustration of the bus lowered and sporting the monochromatic Sprintstars. I think he is going with stock rims in satin black though.
Money Talks
This is what Brandon found on a customer’s case, we are glad they didn’t use Chinese currency. WHAT?
DHSP = Dry Heat Snow Panzers???
Believe it or not, Tucson got some snow this past weekend. Not much, but enough to cause 19,658 cases of pneumonia, 698 snow-related traffic accidents, and property damages to the tune of $12 million. OK, so maybe that last statement is not completely factual, but it did snow in Tucson. Proof below… WHAT?
