Strides Against Cancer 2008: The Visit

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Wasn’t it MC Search who spoke of 3 the hard way?.

Today was the American Cancer Society’s Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. We had plans to bring a few cars down there and due to a rash of uncontrollable circumstances a few is exactly what we got.

No matter

This event was huge! There were literally thousands of people walking for a good cause. Though we only had a few cars out there it was well worth it. Seeing the shear number of people that are affected by breast cancer is sobering to say the least. Our feelings of personal significance was greatly reduced. It was humbling to say the least.

Next year we’ll try to show better but for those of us that were able to make it, this year will be special.

Here’s the vid…enjoy!

Just Kickin It, compound style.

Sometimes it’s nice to unwind by doing.

This is the weekend between Vegas and Chirco and the DHP tradition of spending it unwinding by working held true again.

What happened on Saturday? Fix cracked exhaust flange on lemorris’ car, fixed junky jet on Ed’s car, continued work on 58 resto, worked on BMX bike, put new exhaust in DHP H20 car, ate grease at Lucky Wishbone, made some new friends and drank some grape soda.

good times

Lisa’s Legacy Fund

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Easily one of the most significant motivators in DHP going Pink is Lisa’s Story.

Comic artist Tom Batiuk, creator of Funky Winkerbean had a huge impact on us with the tale of his character Lisa Moore. Her battle with breast cancer was both heart breaking and inspirational. It’s not often that a comic strip changes it’s stripes and tackles such a meaningful subject but we applaud Mr. Batiuk for his efforts.

Here’s a link to the all knowing all accurate Wikipedia Lisa’s Story

Here’s a link to the official Lisa’s legacy Fund site…yes an actual fund set up for a comic character…awesome.

Also here’s the link to Lisa’s Story the book on Amazon…recommended DHP reading…very moving…wow.

Pink and Link.

Here’s a great link that was passed on to us by a co-worker of Lemorris. He saw what was goin on with the site and he sent us this:

_____________________________________________________________________________

Here’s a link you can add to the DHP site, Lemorris:
Click here to visit The Breast Cancer Site

Just by visiting once a day and clicking the big button (and viewing the ads) you can contribute to funding mammograms for those who cannot afford one themselves.

And shopping in the site’s store contributes even more.

Plus the site runs all year, not just in October, so you can visit daily all year round to promote awareness and prevention..

So DHP says thanks to Paul V for the link and for checking out the site. We also want to thank Mercedes S. for the cool Pink Panther idea. Good stuff folks.

Pics and clicks.

First we’ll post the serious then we’ll do the silly.

One of the big events for Breast Cancer Awareness month is their “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” event. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a noncompetitive walk to help fight breast cancer and provide hope to people facing the disease.

This event takes place everywhere according to the map so DHP encourages you to check out the Cancer Society page and see what’s happening with Making Strides in your area.

Pink Ribbon History

We don’t know about you but some of us wondered (outloud) “why pink?…why come it can’t be purple like Lemorris’ soda or grey like Pete wants his 60 to be?” We went to wikipedia (the source for all that is accurate and true) and found some info.

Bring on the silly

Here’s some random shots in DHPink vision of the happenings at the compound tonight. The fellas are getting ready for the Vegas show and sorta relaxing after a work filled week….wait a minute, isn’t today Wednesday? what tha….

Doing things that matter…DHP

Wow! Big time changes huh? :) Well what can we say…we like it.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the DHP crew has decided to step up and show some support. Breast cancer and actually cancer in general has touched many of us over time and statistically speaking many more of us will be touched. Admittedly it is a little sad that it takes a touch or a tragedy to get people off there hinders but the “why” we’re doing something isn’t near as important as the “what” (pun craftily intended)

It is our intent to show support and help increase awareness so we will be using our site to distribute information and even a few stories of hope this month. Doing things that matter is something we encourage all VW clubs and air-cooled fanatics to get behind. Maybe your “matter” is The Children’s Hospital, maybe it’s old building restoration, maybe it’s a big scary man who wants to hurt you (El Guapo)…lol…sorry that was funny…anyway it doesn’t matter what your “matter” is. It can be all of those things and more…just do something that does….we are.
